Aquilani: Off the Pitch

By: Stephanie | July 7th, 2008

il principinoThe reason this blog was created was to document our little Roman whose career is on the rise. In an attempt to let Alberto’s fans know a little bit more about him, I thought I would have at least one post about his personal life. With that said, here is part two of Aquilani’s profile; featuring some tidbits about his life off the pitch.

Full name: Alberto Aquilani
Date of birth: July 7, 1984…Boun Compleanno!!
Place of birth: Rome, Italy
Height: 6’1”
Position: Midfielder
Family: His parents are Claudio and Anna Maria, and has a sister, Monica. Under his tattoo there are initials for all three.
Nicknames: Albertino, Albertone, Il Principino, Il Piccolo Croccodillo, Albe
*Is often compared to Giuseppe Giannini, a former Roma player dubbed “Il Principe” (the prince). Alberto has since been named “Il Principino” (the little prince).
*On joining a youth team: “I did have a trial as a kid for a satellite Lazio side, but then I almost instantly got one with Roma at Trigoria. Thankfully Bruno Conti and Antonio Tempestilli opted to give me a chance and that filled me with immense joy. I had always had only one dream – to play for Roma.”
*Spent the 03/04 season at Triestina to gain experience
*Was part of the Italia team that won the 2003 UEFA European Under-19 Championship
*His friend, Sergio is a Lazio Ultra. He says he has “practically lived in the Curva Nord since childhood.”
*Wished Chivu would’ve stayed at Roma, because they were close friends; they were neighbors.
*Prefers the Scudetto over the Champions League trophy.
*Can successfully complete a ‘Rabona‘ pass
*Says Mexes is the craziest out of everyone, but also the most likeable
*According to Alberto the best players in the world are Francesco Totti, Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi and Kaka
*Loved his U-21 teammates especially, Giuseppe Rossi and Riccardo Montolivo
*Says he and De Rossi can form a solid partnership for the Nazionale
*When asked by Il Romanista where he sees himself in ten years from now, he replied; “Will still be part of the Giallorossi.”
*His favorite movie is Gladiator so he was disappointed to learn that the film’s star, Russell Crowe, is a Lazio fan.
*Is a fan of Roger Federer (who is a Romanista). A few months back some of the Roma players went to see a tennis match featuring Federer….Alberto looked like he didn’t really understand the rules

che?

*Says his life revolves around his family, friends, and Roma. He forgot to mention his steady stream of women…
Alberto’s WAGS:

he\'s got skills

He’s been linked with Giulia Gorietti, Francesca Lana, Pamela Camassa and former Miss Italia, Francesca Chillemi. He’s also been photographed with random hoes other “non-famous” girls.

Had a small part in L’Allenatore nell pallone 2, alongside some other famous players:
stick to your day job,aqui

Features in a Nike ‘Next Level’ video

I’m waiting until he follows in Daniele’s footsteps and makes a potato chip commercial

Clubs that have been interested in Alberto: Real Madrid, Arsenal, Valencia, Inter Milan, Chelsea, and most recently, Juventus. Gigi Buffon has said, “Xabi Alonso or Aquilani to join Juve? They are two different players, but the age is important. The Romanista is young and potentially the best in Europe, or even in the world.” I love him too, Gigi, but stop trying to bring him to Juve he’s not there yet. Gigi’s teammate, Giorgio Chiellini has said that he has called Alberto and urged him to join Juventus. Alberto has a contract that expires in 2010, and is expected to sign a contract renewel. So, Aquilani fans, I hope you’ve gained some insight that you didn’t know before you came here (that or you’ve wasted minutes of your life you’ll never get back). Hopefully, this upcoming season will be one devoid of any major injuries for Alberto, some great Aquilani moments that I can post, and some trophies for Roma!!
